Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Science

Overview

The Undergraduate Degree in Enviromental Science will commence at USAL in the 2010-11 academic year, once it has passed the verification process (ANECA-ACSUCyL and The University Council). It will replace the Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science.

This degree intends to educate students, that wish to become enviromentalists, on all activities pertaining to the environment, stressing the importance of conservation and management of environmental and natural resources, territorial planning, environmental quality management in businesses , environmental quality in relation to health as well as in communication and environmental education from the perspective of sustainability.

The Degree lasts 4 years (60 ECTS credits per year, 240 ECTS to be completed overall) and is made up of year long modules (only in 1st year) and semester long modules. The core and elective modules are taught throughout the four years. The elective modules (18 ECTS, which include work placements) are delivered in the second semster of 3rd and 4th year and the Final Year Project (12 ECTS) in the last semester.

The set of subjects that make up the course structure are grouped into 9 modules, defined as thematic blocks of related material: 1) Basic Sciences, 2) Environmental Sciences; 3) Social Sciences, economics and law, 4) Environmental technology, 5) Environmental and quality management, 6) Conservation, planning and environmental management, 7) Instrumental subjects; 8) Work experience, 9) Final Year Project.
