Undergraduate Degree in Law

Overview

The Undergraduate Degree in Law will begin at USAL in the 2010-11 academic year, once it has passed the verification process. It will replace the Bachelors in Law.

This degree provides a basic education of the basic concepts of Legal Science, and a theoretical and practical knowledge of the legal structure of the national and international community, particularly the regulations of the various branches of law.

The degree lasts 4 years (60 ECTS credits per year, 240 to be completed overall) and is made up of semester long modules. The core modules (60 ECTS) that will be taught during the first year (in both semesters), will combine subjetcs on gerneral legal education; Theory of Law, History of Law, Roman Law, Economic Policy and Public Finance, also with matters relating to the introduction to the study of existing law (Constitutional, Administrative, Civil and Criminal). The compulsory and common modules (144 ECTS) will be taught in 2nd and 3rd year and in the first semester of 4th year. The elective modules (30ECTS) are planned for 4th year so that students can choose and configure modules from their own professional interests to specialize in, in any of the major branches of law (Judicial Law, Private Law, Public Law, or Company Law). Many elective modules provides the possibility of carrying out voluntary work placements in professional firms, institutions or private bodies (6 or 12 ECTS). The degree finishes with the Final Year Project (6 ECTS).

To ensure that students who enroll in elective modules already have a solid legal background, they are required to have passed 150 ECTS prior to enrollment in any of the optional modules.
