Undergraduate Degree History and Music Science
Overview
The Degree in History and Music Science will be offered by the USAL from the academic year 2010-11, following full approval by the ACSUCyL. This programme replaces the former BA in History and Music Science.
The Course content is structured in nine modules and a varied range of subjects is on offer in three different main areas. This allows students, through the elective courses, to acquire those skills suitable for certain job profiles: a) Music, media and cultural management, b) Research and heritage, and c) Music teaching.
The nine modules are: Fundamentals of Humanities; Techniques and methods in humanities; Music history and analysis; Musicology (i.e. theory and techniques); Ethnomusicology; Music in contemporary society; Music teaching methods; Voluntary work placement and final project.
The degree takes 4 years to complete (60 ECTS credits per year, 240 in total) and consists of semester long modules 6 ECTS each. basic modules (60 ECTS), compulsory modules (102 ECTS), elective modules (66 ECTS), and final project (12 ECTS). The basic training modules are delivered over the first two years. The compulsory modules are taught at a gradual pace over the four years, whilst the elective modules are mainly offered over the last two years. In fourth year, students undertake the voluntary work placement and carry out the Final Project.
