Undergraduate Degree in Philosophy
Overview
The Undergraduate Degree in Philosophy will commence at USAL in the 2010-11 academic year, once it has passed the verification process. It will replace the Bachelors in Philosophy.
Philosophy is a rational reflection on our experience of the world and our place in it. It involves methodical questioning and criticism of our own knowledge of reality, the forms of linguistic and artistic expression, and the fundamentals of ethical and political life. This reflection is characterised by the universal vocation and permanent dialogue with different ages, cultures, languages and knowledge. Therefore, philosophy has been and continues to be an essential part of Western history and humanity.
The degree lasts 4 years (60 ECTS credits per year, 240 to complete overall) and is made up of semester long modules of 6ECTS. The core modules (60 ECTS) will be mostly taught in the first year. The compulsory modules (120ECTS) are scheduled throughout each semester and the elective modules (54 ECTS) will mostly be taught during he last year working together with the final year project (6 ECTS). Many of the elective modules include the possibilty of carrying out a voluntary work placement.
Both the compulsory and optional modules respond to thematic fields which are; the different lines of work, specialised teachings and traditional research followed by the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Salamanca: Philiosophical Theory, History of Philosophy, Logic and Philosophy of Science, aesthetics and Theory of Art, and moral philosophy.
