Undergraduate Degree in Physics

Overview

The Undergraduate Degree in Physics will commence at USAL in the 2009-10 academic year, once it has passed the verification process. It will replace the Bachelors in Physics.

As well as basic scientific matter and in its applied aspects, Physics is the paradigm of what we now call Science and one of the pillars of technology.

Recent studies have shown that today physicists are valued much more for their versatility. Therefore this degree in Physics has been designed with this primary objective: to educate professionals in the ability of analising and modeling complex situations, and providing them with the skills to resolve different problems.

For this to be acheived, students must pass 240ECTS credits in four years. The first year of this new degree has been designed with great care so that students develop and homogenize the existing knowledge that they possess from secondary school. In this degree there is also a Physics Laboratory module that is going to provide an overview, from a experimental point of view of all areas of physics.

Once student have obtained a basic education in physics, the following courses will delve into various fields that make up this science: Electromagnetism, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, Electronics, etc. In the second semester of the final year of this degree the students can choose between several options that will allow them to specialise in their desired area. The cirriculum also provides an opportunity for students to complete their degree by undertaking work placements in businesses or institutions. In addition, the Faculty offers students the possibility to take courses in other Spanish and foreign universities through various exchange programs.
Lastly, to obtain their degree students have to submit a final year project.
