Undergraduate Degree in Social Education

Overview

This degree will commence in the 2011-12 academic year , once it has been passed by the ACSUCyL and replaces the diploma in Social Education. Graduates from the previous Diploma in Social Education, will graduate with a degree in Social Education. The Undergraduate Degree in Social Education will begin at USAL in the 2010-11 academic year, once it has passed the verification process. It will replace the Bachelors in Social Education.

The teachings of this degree are designed to provide scientific training in the fields of non-formal education, adult education, the social integration of people with disabilities and mental illness and, in the act of social education itself. Within these areas the educator/social professional is the person who seeks to respond to demands and social needs, therefore preventing, alleviating or correcting any social exclusion, while also promoting processes of inclusion or social participation.

The degree lasts 4 years (60 ECTS credits per year, 240 to be completed overall) and is made up of semester long modules, each worth 6 ECTs credits. The core modules (Teaching, Psychology, Sociology, Language and Communication) (60 ECTS) are taught in the first year, specific training (114 ECTS) in 2nd and 3rd year (including Art of teaching, Social Teaching, Social Development, Research and evaluation, Labour law, etc.). and the elective modules (30 credits) in 3rd and 4th year. The compulsory work placement (30 ECTS) and the Final Year Project (6ECTS) are planned for the final year.
