Undergraduate Degree in Nursing (Salamanca)

Overview

The degree will commence in the 2011-12 academic year, once it has been passed by the ACSUCyL and replaces the diploma in Nursing. Graduates from the previous diploma in Nursing will graduate with a degree in Nursing. In the coming months full information about this course will be made available on this website. The Undergraduate Degree in Nursing will commence at USAL in the 2010-11 academic year, once it has passed the verification process. It will replace the Diploma in Nursing and it will prepare students for work in the regulated profession of Nursing.

The teachings of this Degree are designed to educate professionals with scientific training and the ability to describe, identify, treat and compare health problems that can be solved through Nursing, using the joint methods of, procedures, models, techniques and actions to improve the health status of patients, therefore contributing to the prevention of diseases and their affects. All this, taking the individual into account in the following three dimensions: biological, psychological and social

The degree lasts 4 years (60 ECTS credits per year, 240 to complete overall) and is made up of semester long modules. Basic training modules (60 ECTS) are planned in the 1st year; the specialised training or mandatory modules (84 ECTS) and elective modules (6 ECTS) are mostly taught in the last two years. Clinical placements (84 ECTS) are planned for every semester except during the first semester, and the final year project (6 ECTS) is for the last semester.

The clinical placements are carried out in the Castilla y Léon Public Health Service in the Salamanca area. There are 5 hospital placements (medical, surgical, maternity, operating theatre, mental health, neurology) and in 40 centers of primary care centres (11 urban health centers, 26 rural health centres and 2 specialised health centres).
