Undergraduate Degree in SMB Management

Overview

The degree in SMB (Small and Medium Business) Management was first offered at the University of Salamanca in the 2010-2011 academic year (after passing the ANECA (National Quality and Accreditation Evaluation Agency) and University Council verification process) and replaced the 'Diplomatura' (former degree system) in Business Sciences.

This degree aspires to give students the necessary knowledge and ability in order to respond concretely and effectively to the needs of business management, especially of small and medium businesses, and position themselves within a highly competitive market.

The course lasts 4 years (60 ECTS credits per year in order to complete 240) and is organised into half-year long modules. The core subjects are chosen in 1st and 2nd year and in the first semester of 3rd year. Elective subjects are chosen in the second semester of 3rd year and in the 4th year. Within the elective units, students can do external work experience for an equivalent of 18 ECTS credits. Students that have exceeded the 228 remaining credits will be able to carry out and present The Final Degree Project (12 ECTS), which is offered in the final year.

This degree proposes 5 skill profiles across the range of elective subjects offered. The student will be able to study elective subjects from the 5 profiles offered, obtaining skill recognition by means of the European Diploma Supplement. In such cases, at least 30 credits are offered per profile. Given that the number of elective credits that the student has to pass in order to achieve this degree is 78, the student, if they wish, can design a study plan in order to obtain a specialisation recognised by the European Diploma Supplement in two of the proposed profiles.

The profiles are: 1) Commercial distribution; 2) Accounting and taxation; 3) Finance, banking and insurance; 4) SMB organisation; 5) International business management.
